WHY AN ULTRASOUND SCANNING MACHINE?

Ultrasound is one of the mainstays of modern ante natal care.  Right at the beginning we use it to accurately date the pregnancy so we know when key events should hapen and at the end it is used to check fetal welbeing as well as deciding accurately when the due date is.  

In between it is the only way of checking that fetal anatomy is normal and when sadly it isn't, characterising as accurately as possible what has hapened.  Ultra sound is our 'window on the womb' and the fetus within, which allows us to guide fetal investigation and therapy whilst ensuring the safety of the fetus as much as is possible.  

Without the very best ultrasound equipment we would know very little about the fetus until it is born, let alone be able to help it when it needs help.
